Beautiful British Columbia

I have an amazing job. Not only do I get to talk to students every day about how exciting it is to consider the university experience and how Nipissing may be just where they belong, I get to travel to do so.

I have spent the last two weeks with 45 other Canadian Universities in Victoria, North Saanich, Shawnigan Lake, Nanaimo, North Vancouver, Burnaby, Surrey, Richmond, Port Moody, Delta, Langley, Maple Ridge, West Vancouver and Vancouver, BC with the Canadian Universities Event (C.U.E.). Not too bad for my first time on the West Coast.

Some of the highlights include:

The people. Really great students, families and staff! I had the pleasure of speaking with around 1,000 individuals over the two weeks about Nipissing University. So many great questions and lots of genuine interest in all that Northern Ontario has to offer. I even bumped into a few alumni who sent amazing people my way. With our satisfaction rates, I’m not at all surprised.

The schools. Such amazing places, some perched on mountain sides, some overlooking the ocean and tons of state of the art facilities. A little taste of home on the West Coast, albeit I would have to substitute ocean views with lake views. It’s no wonder students were drawn to our amazing outdoor space. With great outdoors like these, we even managed an outdoor fair.

The food. Not just the amazing Sushi, Dim sum and Indian all over BC, but also the snacks, treats and meals provided by our generous hosts. Thank you again.

The weather. I hear it’s pretty rainy in BC but I didn’t see any until my last evening here. Thank you for extending my summer with sunny, sunny days.

The Murals. I had no idea that there was so much school spirit in BC. I loved all of the elaborate murals showing off your mascots. I was so impressed that I managed selfies with all of them. Check out our twitter feed for those: @NURecruitment. I would love to see you show your Laker PRIDE here at Nipissing.

If I had the pleasure of meeting you at one of the fairs, please do contact me. I am always happy to answer your questions, connect you with other people at the University or just chat about your university search. If I missed you, I’m happy to be in touch as well. We mean it, one student at a time: carlat@nipissinu.ca
