Ten weeks of travel for recruitment season have come to an end and I would not let that happen without telling you all about my travels through the Prairies and all of the amazing people I met.
I started off in Calgary, AB. I have actually been here once before and I was so happy to get back. The people in Calgary are some of the nicest people in the whole world. Trust me, it takes one to know one and I felt almost as at home here, as in my actual home in North Bay.
All 13 schools that hosted in Calgary, Cochrane and Okotoks did not disappoint. Such great people, fantastic questions and lots of genuine interest in Nipissing University. I was in my element.
Next, I was off to Saskatoon and Regina, SK. I spent two days on the See Your Future Education and Career Fair tour. Truth be told, I spend most of my time telling students about Nipissing University because they have never heard about us. This time was different and it really hit home. So many of our Alumni work in SK.
98% of our graduates are satisfied with their decision to attend Nipissing University and if they had to do it all over again, they would return. This is where they belong and I have to thank them for sending their students my way. You know you’re in good hands when your teachers and principals recommend us.
Last but certainly not least; a trip to the prairies would not be complete without a stop in Winnipeg, MB. Again, another first for me and again, totally amazing place with the best people. It was awesome to talk to students who knew where Nipissing was and loved the idea of living in Northern Ontario. I think, most days, it’s a little warmer here after all.
Winnipeg was all about the sports, Varsity sports to be specific. Turns out a number of our Varsity players are from Manitoba and their Laker PRIDE must be contagious, because they were so interested in all that Nipissing University has to offer.
Something that struck particularly close to home for me this trip were all of the amazing people I met who represent our fantastic First Nations. I’m so proud that not only do we at Nipissing University respect those cultures and traditions, we also embrace them. We have an amazing team that recognizes and celebrates your identities as Aboriginal people. Please, check out our Aboriginal Advantage Programs!
The snow is falling and soon it will be Christmas! I can’t wait to take part in all the best that Northern Ontario offers this winter and I’ll be sure to tell you all about it!
