My Best of North Bay

I have lived in North Bay my whole life and at first glance our city may not appear to have all that much to do for fun outside of what the school and residence leaders work hard to organize. So I thought I would share some of the activities I find most interesting here in North Bay!

Escape Rooms: The North Bay escape rooms are a great way to go out with friends and try your hand at difficult puzzles. There are several different themes to choose from and each room offers a different form of mystery to solve within a particular time frame. It’s certainly a fun if experience even if the mystery is difficult to solve.

Memorial Gardens: Nearly everyone has heard of The Gardens but just in case you haven’t, it’s found at 100 Chippewa Street. On a regular basis, Memorial Gardens hosts popular Battalion games which can be a fun time, but if you’re like me and sports aren’t your thing, they also run times during which you can go skating for a few hours. I always find it good way to de-stress from the school year.

Now for the people who are more arts-minded as many at Nipissing are, there’s still a wide variety of activities. For example, on occasion the downtown will host gallery hops. Local artists and shops will put their art on display for people to go and view. Some nights there are plenty of galleries open and on others only five, but no matter how many, it’s a good way to get some fresh air and see the local talent.

Speaking of local talent, on what is typically a monthly basis the White Water Gallery hosts poetry slams in support of their non-profit organization. A small donation is preferred at the door but results in a fun night listening to some very creative people. The gallery has a facebook group for the poetry slams titled North Bay Poetry Slam Season II Vol. I. It is definitely worth checking out.

Lastly, with winter coming around we can’t forget the Laurentian Ski Hill for anyone who loves downhill skiing and snowboarding. They offer both season tickets and day passes. Or, if you’re more like me and prefer a less-extreme version, there is cross-country skiing. I prefer the Wasi Nordic Ski Club but it is pretty out of the way and does not rent out skis. The North Bay Nordic Ski Club, however, is more expensive but offers skis for rent and well maintained trails. Cross-country skiing is a great way to get fresh air and enjoy the winter season.
