Top 10 Places to Visit While in North Bay

If you haven’t already, here are a few places in and around North Bay worth checking out!

1- Tasty Treats

Ivan’s, a northern tradition that provides quality family food, is one restaurant that all students must ensure they visit during their time here. Ivan’s is known for its delicious poutine and amazing soft serve ice cream. Speaking of ice cream, another place known for ice cream is The Green Store where you can enjoy a nice new of the lake while you eat. Not much of an ice cream person? North Bay also offers a frozen yogurt place where you can add your own toppings and fresh fruit. Yogurtz is conveniently located right down the road on McKeown Avenue.

2- Capitol Centre

The Capitol Centre is an entertainment complex located in downtown North Bay that features many live performances and offers showings of classic movies that you may not otherwise get the chance to view in a similar setting.

3- Duchesnay Falls

Duchesnay Falls is located just west of North Bay along Hwy 17 on Duchesnay Creek. In order to get to the falls you can either follow the Education Centre Trails on campus or park in the lot off the highway at the bottom of trail. The trail, which loops around the falls and comes back, is 3 km long and offers beautiful scenery. This is the perfect idea for those who love hiking. There are several different waterfalls throughout the river that offer hikers the opportunity to walk right up to the edge and across the exposed bedrock.

4- Canadian Forces Museum of Aerospace Defence

This is a place that I’ve personally visited multiple times and have always had a positive experience. The museum works with the Royal Canadian Air Force to present multiple collections, exhibits, education programs, and events in an effort for visitors to be appreciative and proud of the accomplishments and contributions that Canada has made in the past.

5- Kate Pace Way

This 12km pathway is a multi-use trail for walking, jogging, cycling, and even rollerblading. While traveling on the pathway users will be able to enjoy a variety of beautiful scenic sights including North Bay’s waterfront. The pathway also travels along many roads that are close to dinner options you can enjoy on the way.

6- New Ontario Brewing Co.

New Ontario Brewing is a relatively new local brewery that uses fresh ingredients in its brews. This is a great place for beer lovers as well as a great gift idea. This is an exciting business to visit in the city that continues to contribute to the local culture of North Bay and the surrounding areas.

7- Room Escape Games

Looking for a different experience that offers a way for the whole family to have fun? North Bay Escape Rooms offers multiple escape rooms that can be booked with 4-10 friends. You and your friends will be locked into a room and given 45-60 minutes to complete the puzzles inside and escape the room.

8- Bowling Alley

Every place needs a bowling alley! Partners Billiards & Bowling is the local blowing alley located in North Bay that guarantees a fun time. With multiple options, such as pool and glow in the dark bowling, Partners offers a great atmosphere and great entertainment.

9- Discovery North Bay

North Bay’s main museum, Discovery North Bay, is located right by the bus terminal, making is highly accessible to students. Originally built in 1903, the station was restored in 2004 to house the current museum. Discovery North Bay aims to preserve and celebrate the history of North Bay with regular programming and exhibits.

10- North Bay Heritage Train and Carousel/Waterfront

The waterfront is one of North Bay’s most beautiful sights. It offers multiple beaches and docks that visitors can walk along to enjoy the great summer weather. Located right across the street is The Heritage Railway & Carousel Company which provides kids and parents alike with exciting carousel rids and a miniature railway. Tickets go for $2.00 each or 3 for $5.00.
