Nipissing University’s Local WUSC Committee

DID YOU KNOW by attending Nipissing University you are directly helping a refugee student achieve a university education? That’s right! Every student pays a small levy into their tuition, which in turn allows a refugee student to attend university, which they otherwise may not have been able to do. To date, Nipissing has graduated two refugee students, currently is hosting a third and we are in preparation for our fourth student to join us in September!

WUSC (World University Services of Canada) is a network of individuals and post-secondary institutions working towards the same goal: to foster human development and global understanding through education.

Here on campus, our Local Committee (student run – student led – student focused) sets a goal to raise awareness on campus and in the community. To do this, we organize a variety of activities including:

  • Shine a Light Campaign
  • Mock Refugee Camp’us’
  • Ten Thousand Villages fair trade sale
  • Uniterra Symposium
  • International Food Fest
  • Bike for Aids Bike-a-thon

All of these activities (and many more) allow opportunities for students on campus to get involved and work together to create awareness. We encourage any and all students to get involved and find out more about the opportunities available to you on campus.

Feel free to send an email to us at anytime or join us on facebook! / Nipissing WUSC Committee
