How to Survive the Reading Week Blues

Reading Week… That magical time of the school year where us students can take a nice breather but did we really? The week after reading week can mean a lot of different things to us Lakers, many think we are feeling refreshed but to be honest, it is quite the opposite. Whether you can relate to being 2 weeks behind on readings, living the Netflix life, or stressed for those midterms or papers, trust me I can relate. I always have grand plans to get all of my work done, like I think I’m invincible or something but it never seems to happen the way I envision it…

But don’t fear Lakers, here are some things you can do to get yourself back on track!

First off,

Take Care of yourself

Most of us students exhaust ourselves with sleepless nights, and countless hours of studying, so make sure to keep making YOU as a priority. Your body needs rest and you deserve to be appreciated for how hardworking you are!

Do the small things first

Sure, it seems like you may want to tackle those HUGE papers, or assignments but getting done the littlest ones adds up. I bet you could get these small ones done in a day even if they aren’t due for a few weeks, but when you get so busy you will thank yourselves later! And hey it’s another assignment done and that is an accomplishment in itself!

Make the most of waiting around

We tend to spend a lot of our day waiting for coffee or for the bus etc. So use this time to read some notes, cue cards just to keep your mind busy and it will help you feel a lot more productive at the end of the day.

Stay Organized

A tip that many of us have a love-hate relationship with… Staying organized can be tricky especially during this time of the year. Keep track of all your due dates and keep focused on December, it will be here before we know it. I find it also helps to write a list of all the things you have to do, and once you cross it off, man does it make you feel proud!

Keep in Touch with your Loved Ones

Since most of us were at home for the week, it can be difficult to transition back to the school mode so it is important to keep in touch with your loved ones. Let them remind you how much they love you and support you, which will keep you going until the next time home!

Remember, school can be tough but you are tougher and can get through the next couple of weeks! Our campus has many resources to seek out if you need them! Academic Skills can help you with those tricky assignments and Student Accessibility can be a helping hand in even harder moments. So reach out when you need to because there is support all around campus. Keep pushing and keep your head held high! All we can do is our best Lakers so do not give up.
