Before coming to Nipissing, I never really knew who I was. I know that everyone usually thinks you find yourself throughout your four years at high school, but in my opinion, university is the place where you grow as a person and find out who you are.
Don’t get me wrong, two years ago when I was entering my senior year of high school I probably thought I knew exactly who I was, who my friends were, where I was going to go to college, and what I was going to be. But my gosh, was I ever wrong. I was a seventeen-year-old blinded by the fact that when you’re in high school everyone pushes so much for you to have answers to those questions I listed above. Even though I may have thought that I knew who I was going to be, I was wrong.
University is the perfect place to figure out who you are as an adult. No one is pushing you to hand in assignments, no one is cooking your meals; it’s just you.
Flash forward to last year: I came to Nipissing University bright-eyed and ready for an adventure – and an adventure I got. I met some fantastic people, took some interesting classes, I dealt with failure and had a few too many all-nighters, but I would not change my first year of university for anything. Even though you may have to deal with all the hardships like heartache, forgetting assignments, and failing assignments, whatever it is – good or bad – it’s what makes you, you.
University is the place where you can figure out how to cook meals, how to balance a social life and school life, how to make friends, how to have a serious relationship, and how to be independent.
Choosing to go to Nipissing University was one of the best choices I have made, and I hope you think that too. I’ve never seen a school that has so much spirit for our Nipissing Lakers, is as helpful and accommodating academically, or as supportive as Nipissing University is.
Take it from my experience – going to university is not only beneficial for furthering your education to get a better job, but it’s an experience that helps you find out who you are as a person. I know that I am 18 years old, I hate meat, I love yoga, traveling, meeting people and experiencing life. Nipissing University has all kinds of services available to me to ensure I can do what I love and get the most out of my University experience besides just an education.
