Long-time, no chat… or should I say blog?
This recruitment season has been nothing short of amazing. It’s been such a rewarding experience to travel across this beautiful province to speak with students, parents, supporters and guidance counselors! This being my second time round, I had a few tips and tricks ready to make sure that this year was even better! I wanted to meet and greet with the locals, and soak in small-town Ontario! Let me say, this season did not disappoint.
Today’s blog is a “love-letter” to all of the small towns and cities across Ontario. I want to throw some love out to all the communities in our province that do not get the attention that they should! I wanted to make sure that while travelling I ate as local as possible, tour as much as possible, and chat with the locals, whenever able.
I had a blast hiking along the hillside of The Eagle’s Nest Lookout in Bancroft! I had one of the best dinners of my entire life at the Wilno Tavern in Canada’s first Polish settlement! I’ll never forget carefully traversing the icy caves in Warsaw, or enjoying some Tragically Hip in Bobcaygeon in the fall! Sitting down for a brunch across from the swing-bridge in Little Current. Grabbing some of the best butter tarts imaginable in Haliburton were definitely highlights too! I could go on, and on, and on if you let me!
These small towns and cities are home to some of the best-kept secrets in the whole province, and I was able to check out so many cool places all thanks to being a student recruiter. Thank you to all the special people and businesses that hosted me during this fall! I can’t wait to return the favour at Nipissing University.
Until next time Lakers, and soon-to-be Lakers… It’s been a slice!
